Making Your Fee A Tax Deduction

In many cases, your expedition fee can be tax deductible.

American Friends of Russian Folklore is a public charity, described by sections 501(c)3 and 170(b)(1) (A)(VI) of the Internal Revenue Code.  It is not a private foundation.  US residents who itemize their income tax deductions may deduct their contributions to the extent allowed by law.

You may be able to deduct the out-of-pocket expenses incurred by donating your labor.  You may also be able to deduct that portion of your fee which supports the work of AFRF (see chart below).  We recommend that you keep a log of your expedition activities and consult a tax professional who is familiar with your particular circumstances.
