The estimated fees for your expedition can be found on the trip’s info page. Below, you will find general information about deadlines and policies that apply to all trips.
A $500 deposit is due with your application. This will not be deposited until you are accepted. Once your application is accepted, your deposit becomes non-refundable. We use these deposits to make advance reservations for team travel and lodging.
Fee Due Date
The balance of your total fee is due 60 days before the start of the expedition. You will find the fee for each trip on the expedition’s info page.
If you cancel your participation in an expedition within 60 days of the expedition departure date, the expedition fee is non-refundable and will be considered a charitable donation.
If a volunteer wishes to join an expedition and it is less than 60 days before the expedition departure date AND there is space available on the expedition, participation may be possible. If participation is approved, you will be charged an additional $100 late processing fee.
Expedition Fees in Uncertain Times
We calculated our expedition fees in October 2019. Over time, we will be monitoring the value of the US dollar against the currencies of Russia and Kazakhstan. Exchange rates are affected by national politics, international politics, the price of oil and a host of other factors. We are unable to predict them.
AFRF reserves the right to add a surcharge to our expedition fees should the value of the dollar drop drastically against the relevant foreign currency. On the other hand, if the foreign currency drops drastically compared to the dollar, we pledge to return any “windfall” to you after we have covered our costs.
